About the event

***When you RSVP for Sunday August 7th, you are also reserving your space to participate in the second gathering with your group on Sunday August 21st, 2022***

Laundry Day Tip #1: Correct the voice in your head that says that your story is not important to share.

Virtual Laundry Days are a call for women* to gather, to listen and be heard, and an opportunity to create pieces of visual storytelling that share and reveal stories and experiences of strength, hope, unity, and resistance of oppression, injustice, and exclusion.

Laundry Day workshops are facilitated by Andrea Downs, Artist and Founder of Airing Out the "Dirty" Laundry. Her hope is to create brave, supportive, and safe spaces for all to create pieces of visual storytelling that speak up and speak out about themes and acts of injustice.

Virtual Laundry Days are intentionally designed for small groups of women to meet together 2 times for 1-hour sessions. There are 2 weeks scheduled in between the Laundry Days so that participants will have time to further process their ideas and purchase or collect materials to use to create their pieces. Andrea will also offer specific suggestions in terms of materials as a part of the first gathering.

The second Laundry Day will be specifically dedicated to beginning to create together and hold space for each other through the process.

No prior experience sewing or art making is necessary.

This experience is for any individual who would like their voice to be heard.

Participants will let their stories breathe together by mailing them to the address below where they will be joined together on the laundry clothesline, and in ongoing installations with the more than 400 stories already in the collection.

There is so much strength and beauty in the collective voice.

Once your laundry piece is created, please mail it to:

PO Box 924

Brooklandville, MD 21022

*All women, femmes, and non binary people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women are invited to participate.
