Film Description

Reproductive rights are under attack in North Carolina.

When Roe v. Wade was overturned, North Carolina became one of the last abortion access  points in the South, as state after state fell to dangerous, restrictive abortion bans. Now,  after the passage of Senate Bill 20, the state faces its own reproductive health crisis. SB20  bans abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy and adds additional, medically unnecessary  barriers to abortion care. This cruel ban on essential healthcare strips North Carolinians of  their fundamental right to control their own bodies, lives, and futures. But attacks on  abortion access in North Carolina are nothing new.

North Carolina's Abortion Story is a 10-minute-long documentary that explores historic and  multifaceted aspects of reproductive freedom, incorporating personal accounts and expert  insights to highlight how issues of race, gender, class, and power intersect in the realm of  reproductive rights.

This short film navigates the complexities of making reproductive choices in  a society shaped by political agendas and anti-abortion stigma. The film contextualizes SB20 within the broader history of reproductive rights in North Carolina, tracing back to the systemic  oppression faced by marginalized communities. This film urges viewers to confront the  injustices perpetuated by SB20 and to advocate for policies that prioritize the health,  autonomy, and dignity of all people. By amplifying marginalized voices and challenging  oppressive systems, the film ignites a call to action towards a future where reproductive justice  is a reality for all.
